Isoleucine Benefits For Treating Hair Loss

A group of veggies, fruits, and nuts that contain Isoleucine

If you are struggling with the feeling of your hair getting a little thin on top, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Here at Divi, we have conducted extensive research on hair health and created a formula using targeted, active and clean ingredients to help treat many of the symptoms associated with hair loss.

The goal is to promote scalp health and create a healthy environment for hair to prosper. Think of a garden where flowers and other plants grow. They need a strong foundation to flourish – meaning the ground and soil needs to provide a good setting – and the same is true for hair health.

Among our ingredients, we have included several amino acids that play an important role in keeping your hair and scalp healthy. One of them is isoleucine.

What is Isoleucine?

Isoleucine is an essential amino acid, which means it does not occur naturally in the body and needs to be obtained from external sources, such as food or supplements.

Isoleucine is also one of three branched-chain amino acids (isoleucine, leucine and valine), which are found in protein-rich foods, including meat, poultry, fish, eggs, cheese, lentils, nuts, seeds, dairy, soy, beans and legumes.

This amino acid has many vital roles in keeping our bodies healthy. Isoleucine helps regulate blood glucose and heal wounds, and it helps the body detoxify itself of nitrogenous wastes like ammonia.

It also aids in the production and formation of hemoglobin, as well as the production of red blood cells. In short, isoleucine is essential for proper body functioning.

How Can Isoleucine Help with Hair Loss?

Isoleucine and the other branched-chain amino acids help produce the potassium ions found in human hair follicles. Potassium deficiency, known as hypokalemia, can contribute to hair loss.

A study published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology explored the mechanism of intracellular potassium channel openers, which play an important role in hair growth. Research in this area is new, but there are established connections between isoleucine, potassium and hair loss.

Ensuring that your body has sufficient levels of isoleucine – through a healthy diet and topical or oral supplementation – is an important part of promoting hair and scalp health. Isoleucine can increase your body’s ability to produce potassium ions, which can also protect the hair from high levels of sodium, a contributing factor to hair loss.

How Isoleucine Can Help

As previously mentioned, a potassium deficiency can cause hair loss and various other symptoms. Depleted potassium levels can cause potassium ions to weaken, which can interfere with or block the channels that transport potassium to hair follicles. The result is hair shedding and significant adverse effects on hair health.

The study noted above highlighted that the reinstatement of potassium ions in hypokalemia sufferers can significantly improve their hair growth.

Isoleucine also helps heal wounds and can, therefore, help with the symptoms of conditions that affect the scalp and cause sores to form, such as atopic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis, which cause hair loss plus rashes or scabs.

Is Isoleucine Safe for the Scalp?

Topical application of isoleucine to the scalp is safe, and there are no known side effects from isoleucine used in hair products.

That said, if you experience any concerning side effects, please stop using the hair care product and talk with your doctor in case you have any ingredient sensitivities.

Does Isoleucine Treat Hair Loss?

Isoleucine can help treat hair loss caused by potassium deficiency and diets too high in sodium.
